All of our Luthier material is custom sorted from the very best figure and quality wood available from our extensive inventory. After 55 years working with figured hardwoods this is the part of my job that I enjoy the most. This is because I get to see and process the very best Nature has to offer in figured hardwoods. It never ceases to amaze me with the beauty that I see presented before me. Finding the very best material does take considerable effort and cost and I find it is not getting any easier as time goes on. Remember that each piece of material is unique....just like you....not another one in the world like it!
All luthier materials available at MapleLeaf Hardwoods are custom-sorted and prepared to meet rigorous standards. Each piece is
- Sapwood two-faced surfaced on four sides and kiln-dried to 6% - 8% moisture content.
- Free from defects such as knots, splits, cracks, or wane unless otherwise noted in the Graders Notes.
- Sourced predominantly from Eastern Red Maple, with specific pieces labeled as Eastern Hard Maple.
To ensure your satisfaction, I provide a guarantee on our Luthier Material: if you resaw a billet and discover an obvious defect such as a knot or bark inclusion not visible on the surface, I will replace it at no cost. My goal is to ensure you receive the finest material for your musical instrument creations.
