Sorting Logs on Pine Creek Spring 1908 As soon as the winter snow started to melt and the surrounding creeks and rivers began to swell, logs once again were sent on their way downstream until they reached one of the sorting booms where they were ultimately processed into lumber. You can see spots of snow on the hillside in the picture as the men began the dangerous work of running the logs and sorting them by mill mark and species. It was all too common for these men to slip, fall in and be crushed between logs or hit their heads and drown in the cold water.
